I'm Lauren! Artist & Ringmaster of my own little circus of three dogs, one cat, two silly girls, one hubby, countless plants, and many collections of clay characters. In a previous life, I made my living in the accounting world. When my artistic roots began to beckon in 2020, I slowly began to trade spreadsheets for sketchbooks.
Early on, I had big dreams of making movie monsters in Hollywood. I studied principles of design, drawing, special FX makeup, and editorial makeup. So much fun! After a long career sidetrack, I began practicing with air dry clay in 2022. With little experience, I began to create small characters and opened an Etsy shop to offer them to the world. In addition to growing my sculpting techniques, I recently studied ceramics under two amazing ceramicists. I hope to soon offer pottery in addition to my figurines.
With Stony Layne Co, I aim to design original characters with a flair for the fantastical. I gain inspiration from various vintage finds, fables, and my own day dreams. Wherever inspiration hits, I ride the wave and add my own growing style to the final design.
I currently use paper clay as my medium of choice, but also incorporate fabrics, wood, and vintage trinkets. All of my artwork is crafted entirely by hand in my Houston studio. I do not use molds to build the figurines or stencils for the hand lettering elements.
In 2023, I joined the Johanna Parker Partners in Craft family and couldn't be prouder! Shortly thereafter in 2024, with Johanna's imaginative input, we began creating exclusive JPD Partners in Craft designs for the festive shelves of Traditions!
It's been a true blessing to rediscover my talent and tap back into my artistic beginnings. I look forward to all of the possibilities that may come. Thank you so much for following along in my journey back home.
